Peggy McAlpine (30 October 1907 – 7 December 2013) was a British-born Cypriot centenarian.
Biography[]
Peggy McAlpine was born in Stirling, Scotland, UK on 30 October 1907.
In the 1920’s, she made her first an aircraft flight. She married Thomas McAlpine and had two children. Her husband died of cancer in 1980. She celebrated her 80th birthday doing a bungee jump. She moved to lived with her daughter Elizabeth Forsyth (aged 77 in 2013) in Cyprus in 2004.
She originally claimed the title for oldest person to paraglide tandem (female) in 2007 after completing a jump at the age of 100 years, 1 day. However, her daredevil record was bettered by Mary Allen Hardison from Utah, USA as part of her 101th birthday celebrations in September 2011. She did another tandem paraglider on 14 April 2012 at the age of 104 years, 168 days thus regaining her world title.
Peggy McAlpine died of pneumonia following flu in Karmi, Kyrenia, Cyprus on 7 December 2013 at the age of 106 years, 38 days. At time of her death, she had four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
