Pierre Joseph Darcourt (23 January 1729 – 11 May 1837) was a verified Belgian centenarian who was the oldest known person ever recorded at the time of his death - a record which would stand for over 55 years, which is the longest time the "oldest person ever" title has been held. He was the first person known to reach the age of 108.[1][2]
Biography
Darcourt was born in Audregnies, Belgium on 23 January 1729. He was a tailor, and in 1791 became a widower. To our knowledge, he was the oldest person in the world with the death of Marie-Louise Plante in 1832. He died more than five years later in Hainaut, Belgium at the age of 108 years, 108 days. At the time of his death he was the oldest person ever, though he would later be surpassed by Anne D'Evergroote.[3] He was the last known surviving person born in the 1720s, and remains one of the 10 oldest Belgian men ever almost 300 years after his birth.
