Pierre Pineau (23 February 1913 – 7 June 2023) was a French supercentenarian who, at the time of his death, was the third-oldest known living man in France, after Andre Ludwig and Georges Thomas. His age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Pierre Pineau was born in L'Avennerie, Sevremoine, Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, France on 23 February 1913, into a family of farmers. His parents were named Pauline and Pierre Pineau, and he had two sisters. He went to school in Saint-Germain, and helped his father on the farm. He married Marie-Rose on 8 September 1939. From this union were born four boys and a girl; at the time of his 100th birthday, he had 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

During his military service during World War ll, Pineau was taken as a prisoner of war.

With his wife, Pineau became involved in community life in Germin, which included being active in the senior citizens' club, folklore, and theatre.

On his 100th birthday in 2013, Pineau was recognized by his town for his longevity, with mayor Denis Vincent personally congratulating him, saying "You probably owe it to your healthy lifestyle. You are still doing your garden and you are still handling your tiller!"

At the time of his 110th birthday in 2023, Pineau was still able to walk with the aid of a walker, and expressed his goal of living for many more years.

Pineau died in Saint-Germain-sur-Moine, Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, France on 7 June 2023 at the age of 110 years, 104 days.
