Biography[]

Reybrouck-Neyt was born in Sijsele, West Flanders, Belgium, on 14 June 1909. She was the youngest daughter in the family of nine children of Henricus Neyt (1871 – 1958), who, as a servant, did all kinds of maintenance jobs in the large mansions, and his wife Amelia Maria Claeys (1869 – 1966). She was going to school until she was 14 years old and then got her first job. She started working as a housekeeper at various families, especially in Sint-Kruis. At the age of 23, she married a gardener, Achiel Reybrouck. She continued to work even after her marriage. The couple had one son, Lucien, and remained living in Sijsele. At the age of 70, she became a widow and she continued to live alone until the age of 89. At that time she went to the retirement home in Damme. Just before her 105th birthday, she moved to the new retirement home in her home village.

Even at the age of 108, she still heard well and was able to eat independently. She celebrated her 110th birthday in June 2019. At that time, she had 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She received a visit from the mayor of her city, Joachim Coens, as well as from various family members. According to her, the secret to longevity was in drinking a lot of water and coffee.

Reybrouck-Neyt died in Sijsele, Damme, Belgium, on 14 August 2019 at the age of 110 years, 61 days.
