Rachel (Rae) Wieselberg (née Chyte; 23 June 1883 – 6 June 1996) was a Latvian-born British supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in the United Kingdom at the time of her death. Her age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography
Wieselberg was born in Riga, Russian Empire (now the capital of Latvia) on 23 June 1883 (claimed 19 June 1885). She emigrated to the United Kingdom, and in her later life she lived in London. She was former buttonhole maker and seamstress and aunt to Gerald Westbury, oncologist and her son Jack Westbury was Mayor of Lambeth in 1970.
Wieselberg became the oldest living person in England following the death of 112 year-old Rebecca Hewison on 22 September 1994. She later became the oldest living person in the whole of the United Kingdom following the death of Northern-Irish born Scotswoman Annie Scott on 21 April 1996.
Wieselberg died in London, England, UK on 6 June 1996 at the age of 112 years, 349 days (claimed 110 years, 353 days). At time of her death, she was also the oldest living Jewish person in the United Kingdom. Following her death, Lucy Askew became the UK's oldest living person.
