Rafael Maria Mendez Duran [Spanish: Méndez Durán] (born 9 July 1912) is a Costa Rican centenarian who is the oldest known living man in Costa Rica.
Biography
Rafael Mendez Duran was born in San Ramon, Alajuela, Costa Rica on 9 July 1912. His parents were Jose Benjamin Mendez Gonzalez (1871–1971) and Antonia Ninfa Duran Vega (1873–1920). He had at least eight siblings. He had 22 children. He actively participated in the Costa Rican Civil War.
He lived in the community of San Juan de Dios de Baru de Perez Zeledon for many years. Later, he lived with a daughter in Buenos Aires Canton.
As of July 2019, he had eight living children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mendez Duran currently lives in San Ramon, Alajuela, Costa Rica, at the age of 109 years, 362 days.
