Biography[]

Early Life[]

Raymonde Robert was born in Le Petit-Quevilly, Seine-Maritime, Normandy, France on 14 February 1912, the second of six children. As soon as she was 13, she worked as a seller in a crockery shop in Rouen.

In 1934, she married Marcel Robert, a photographer, in Rouen. They had two children: Marcel (aged 80 in 2017, living in Falaise), and Claudine (aged 75 in 2017, living in Paris). The family moved to Falaise, where they managed a photography shop. She learnt the profession as she went along.

In 1944, the bombardments in Falaise destroyed their house and their store. The family fled to Rouen; they took Marcel's mother in a wheelbarrow. They were received by Marcel's brother, and she worked as a cleaner in his café. After the reconstruction, in 1950, they resumed their activity.

Later Life[]

Marcel died in 1979, at the age of 65. Helped by her son, she ran her business until she retired in 1980 at the age of 68, as she wouldn't run her store without her husband. She moved to Résidence Pierre Noal in Putanges-le-Lac at the age of 102.

On her 105th birthday in 2017, Robert was reported to be very alert. She was able to dress up, to eat, to wash herself, and to make her bed without any assistance. She only used a cane to walk. However, she was a bit hard of hearing.

In February 2022, Robert celebrated her 110th birthday.

Following the death of 111-year-old Madeleine Cornu on 19 May 2022, Robert became the oldest known living person in Normandy.

Robert died in a nursing home in Putanges-le-Lac, Orne, Normandy, France on 30 December 2022, at the age of 110 years, 319 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Normandy, and in Orne department.
