Biography[]
Raymundo Nery Pinto Ferreira was born in Fazenda do Taquaral, Dores de Guanhães, Minas Gerais, Brazil, to parents Raymundo Euzébio Souza Pinto and Marieta Ferreira Coelho. He was one of ten children in the family - his siblings were named Maria, Iveta, Vitelina, Marieta, Ceci, Edite, Otacílio, Rita and José. By 2013, Raymundo was the only one of the ten siblings still alive. He was baptized on 11 September 1911, and his birth wasn't registered until the following month in October, as delayed birth registration was common in the past due to high infant mortality rates. He graduated from university in 1932, and on February 5th, 1934, he was appointed to serve as the Registrar of Peace and Civil Registry Officer for the district of Ferros City. He later served as Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist.
As a centenarian, his overall health - both physically and mentally - was excellent for his age, and was even capable of walking down stairs by himself at the age of 108. He celebrated his 110th birthday on 17 May 2021.
Raymundo Nery Pinto Ferreira died in Ferros, Minas Gerais, Brazil on 24 May 2021 aged 110 years, 7 days.
