Ricardo Smith Santibanez (born 3 April 1911) is a Chilean supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). He has been the oldest known living man in Chile since the death of Manuel Benavente Sanhueza on 21 March 2021.

Biography

Ricardo Smith Santibanez was born in Temuco, Cautin, Chile on 3 April 1911 to a Canadian father and a Chilean mother. His paternal grandfather, George Smith (1789-1880) was from Cornwall, England. His father, Philip Thomas Smith (1844-1924) was born in Canada and immigrated to Chile with his first family to start a lumber mill business. He later married a second time to Margarita Santibanez Sanchez (1890-1965), producing their son, Ricardo, who was born when Philip was 67. Smith Santibanez worked as an accountant and married Mariana Partarrieu Navarrete (1912-2009).

On 8 February 2021, at the age of 109, he received the COVID-19 vaccine, making him one of the oldest people to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Ricardo Smith Santibanez currently lives in Concepcion, Bio Bio Region, Chile at the age of 113 years, 16 days. On 3 April 2021, he celebrated his 110th birthday, making him only the 3rd Chilean man to reach this age.
