Rita Rosaria Lotta (born 17 November 1912) is an Italian supercentenarian whose age is currently pending validation by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Rita Rosaria Lotta was born in Monteiasi, Taranto, Apulia, Italy on 17 November 1912.

Lotta has been described by many as very energetic, vital, and always full of enthusiasm. She never went to work in the countryside, as many women did when she was young, because she liked embroidering and working as a seamstress. In this regard, it is said that she sewed very well and that she was also quite skilled in the use of the loom.

Lotta voted in the constitutional referendum of 2 June 1946. She is very religious, and she marks out her days with the help of prayer.

Lotta has always followed a very strict diet made up of light meals accompanied by a glass of wine. She really likes sweets, and in general, as far as nutrition is concerned, she has her own way by not following the rules of Mediterranean nutrition exactly by the word. In fact, Lotta often does the exact opposite. A strong enough spirit, therefore, that led Lotta to live thinking of others since, having never had children, she took care of her nephew together with her widowed sister.

On her 108th birthday in 2020, despite the spread of COVID-19, the mayor of Monteiasi visited Lotta at her home to celebrate her birthday. He dedicated a special wish to her, personally delivering her a commemorative plaque and a floral tribute for the occasion of her birthday.

In November 2022, Lotta celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

Rita Rosaria Lotta currently lives in Monteiasi, Taranto, Apulia, Italy, at the age of 111 years, 153 days. She is currently the oldest known living person in Apulia, and is also among the 20 oldest known living people in Italy.
