Riu Kato [Japanese: 加藤リウ] (5 November 1899 – 27 October 2010) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Riu Kato was born in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan on 5 November 1899. In November 2009, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.
Following the death of 110-year-old Mitsuno Suzuki of Yonezawa on 19 March 2010, Kato became the oldest known living person in Yamagata Prefecture.
Riu Kato died in Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan on 27 October 2010 at the age of 110 years, 356 days. One day later, on 28 October 2010, her age was verified by Japan's MHLW and Tom Li, and validated by the GRG.
