Román Lopez (7 July 1907? – 28 May 2020) was a Dominican Republic supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). If his claimed age were true, he would have been the world's oldest living man at the time of death.
Biography[]
Lopez claimed to have been born in El Arrollo, Barahona, Dominican Republic, on 7 July 1907. He always worked in agriculture: cultivating bananas, yautia, cassava and other minor products. He has traveled 4 times to the United States and visited many US states. He married four times and had 20 children (18 of whom were alive in 2017).
Although he had hearing problems, according to his relatives he had no serious health problems. Even at the claimed age of 112, he was still able to walk and keep going to church, although he had problems with one leg. Following the death of Chitetsu Watanabe on 23 February 2020, Lopez became a candidate for the "Oldest Living Man" title. At the claimed age of 112, he lived with his first daughter, Gladys Lopez Arias.
Lopez died in El Arrollo, Barahona, Dominican Republic, on 28 May 2020, at the claimed age of 112 years, 326 days. Coincidentally, his death occurred on the same day as the death of Bob Weighton, the world's oldest living validated man at the time.
