Romilda Avallone

Romilda Avallone (16 March 1908 – 28 March 2020) was an American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2024.

Biography[]

Romilda Avallone was born in New York, USA on 16 March 1908 to Italian immigrants Pietro Avallone and Anna Ferraro. Her siblings were Ernest, Mary, Nicholas, James, and John. At the age of 18, she was working as a telephone operator.

In May 1926, Avallone was arrested for stealing approximately $545 worth of money and jewelry from her uncle Lorenzo Capone. She had lived with Capone for a while due to not getting along with her parents. That same year, her brother Ernest was reported to have violated his parole related to a burglary arrest. He was sent to prison for three months. In 1931, her brother Nicholas was arrested for car theft, along with two other youths. In 1934, he was arrested for robbery. In 1949, he was arrested for assaulting a 14-year-old girl in a hotel room.

Avallone married Emilio Bologna on 25 August 1927. She later worked as a seamstress. Emilio died in November 1982.

In March 2018, Avallone turned 110 years old.

Romilda Avallone died in Greenwich, Connecticut, USA on 28 March 2020, at the age of 112 years, 12 days. At the time of her death, she was the fourth-oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Connecticut, after Florence Carroll, Margaret Quinn, and Leonora Cox.
