Rose Cliver (9 October 1902 – 18 February 2012) was an American centenarian who, at the time of her death, was the second-oldest known survivor of the Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake (behind Ruth Newman).[1][2][3][4]
Biography[]
Rose Cliver was born on 9 October 1902 in San Francisco, California. She was one of 13 siblings. She was 3 years old on 18 April 1906, when the quake and resulting fire killed more than 1,000 people and ruined more than 28,000 buildings.
Cliver attended an annual commemoration of the disaster in 2009, and enjoyed her 15 minutes of fame, said her son, Don Cliver. She told The Chronicle that day that she and her family, who lived in Bernal Heights, had climbed Bernal Hill after the quake and watched San Francisco burn.
Cliver died in Santa Rosa, California, USA on 18 February 2012 at the age of 109 years, 132 days.
