Biography[]

Rubye Catherine Gawf was born in Emery, Arkansas, USA, on 31 January 1904, and lived most of her life in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She graduated from Northeastern State University in 1925, and went on to teach high school English and French. She married Van Brent Cox, and together they worked as grocers for 36 years. The couple had two children; a son Carlyle and a daughter, Betty.

For over 30 years, Cox headed the children’s department at Boulevard Christian Church, trained young people to teach, and encouraged young men to enter the ministry. She and her husband helped to found a new congregation, Muskogee Christian Church.

At the age of 98, Cox moved to Bristol, Rhode Island, to live with her daughter. She moved in to a nearby nursing home in 2004, where she lived until her death on 2 December 2015 at the age of 111 years, 305 days.

Together they had a combined age of 323 years, 128 days. Their paternal aunt, Betty Runsick (1877–1986), lived to the age of 108.
