Arthur "Rudy" Thompson (28 October 1912 – 13 June 2023) was an American supercentenarian and author who was among the oldest known living men in the United States at the time of his death. He was also the oldest known living person born in the U.S. state of Oregon. His age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2024.

Biography[]

Rudy Thompson was born to Norwegian immigrants on a farm in Toledo, Oregon, USA on 28 October 1912. During the first five years of his life, he grew up on the farm where he was born. He later moved to California.

Thompson served during World War II and was among the oldest known living veterans of the war at the time of his death.

Thompson graduated from Oregon State University in 1952 and was believed to be the oldest known living person to have graduated from there. He was also believed to be the last known surviving student who was a member of the university's class of 1952.

At the age of 106, Thompson underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement, where his heart valve was replaced with a cow's heart valve through the femoral artery in his leg. He was believed to be the oldest known person to have undergone this procedure.

Thompson had published several books throughout his lifetime and was already in the process of publishing at least two more books as of January 2022. At the time of his death, he still remained active as an author. Although he had some difficulties with his right hand due to his age, he was able to use his right index finger and his left hand to type.

On 28 October 2022, Thompson celebrated his 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

Rudy Thompson died in Alta Sierra, California, USA on 13 June 2023, at the age of 110 years, 228 days.
