Ruth Bancroft (née Petersson; 2 September 1908 – 26 November 2017) was an American centenarian, landscape, and garden designer and the creator of Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek, California.
Biography[]
Ruth Bancroft was born as Ruth Petersson in Boston, Massachusetts, USA to Swedish immigrants and moved to California when she was a baby. Her interest in gardening began when she was a teenager. She created the Ruth Bancroft Garden in 1971, which is still growing to this day and is a popular tourist attraction.
Bancroft died in Walnut Creek, California, USA on 26 November 2017 at the age of 109 years, 85 days.
