Centenarian

Ruth Isobel Berry (neé Simon; 19 November 1909 – 13 April 2019) was a Guernsey centenarian who was, at the time of her death, the oldest known living person in Guernsey.[1][2][3][4]

Biography[]

Berry was born in Guernsey on 19 November 1909. She was among the many thousands of people evacuated from Guernsey during WWII, and she travelled to Lancashire, England with her three young children.

Having spent years in St Helen’s in Lancashire and then on the south coast of England, during what her son has described as a ‘terrible time’, Berry returned to Guernsey and was heavily involved in her local church when her children and grandchildren were growing up.

Berry's son is former States member Roger Berry. One of her sisters lived to be more than 100. She died on 13 April 2019 at the age of 109 years, 145 days.[5]
