Ruth Anna Victoria Brown (née Magnuson; 15 June 1913 – 5 December 2023) was an American supercentenarian who was the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of New Hampshire at the time of her death. Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2023.

Biography[]

Ruth Magnuson Brown was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA on 15 June 1913 to Swedish immigrants Victor and Anna Magnuson. She was the oldest of 10 children, all of whom she later outlived. She married Bob Brown, a federal air traffic controller, on 28 May 1938, and the couple had two daughters together, Kristine and Bonnie.

In Pittsburgh, Brown worked at G. C. Murphy, a chain of five and dime stores. She moved to Oberlin, Ohio with her husband in the 1960s.

Brown's husband died in 1990. Following his death, she moved to Texas to live with her daughter Kristine, who died in 2015. Brown then moved — already aged 102 — to an assisted living community in Nashua, New Hampshire. This allowed her to live closer to her other daughter, Bonnie, who lived in Massachusetts.

At the time of her 108th birthday in 2021, Brown had five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She notes her consumption of cod liver oil as a habit that facilitated her longevity.

Aside from her hearing, Brown was reported to be "remarkably healthy" on her 109th birthday.

Brown celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian on 15 June 2023.

Ruth Brown died in Langdon Place, Nashua, New Hampshire, USA on 5 December 2023 at the age of 110 years, 173 days.
