Salim bin Hamad bin Abdullah Qasabi (1890?/1907? – 11 September 2017) was an Omani longevity claim.
Biography[]
Salim claimed to have been born in 1890 in the district of Bahla, south of the Hajjar mountains and close to Nizwa city. His father lived until he was 95. Travel was something Qassabi was familiar with according to the Oman Daily Observer. He traveled to Zanzibar in 1940, when it was still under British rule, where he remained for 22 years, working in trade and was also said to be supportive of Omani immigrants living there. He left Zanzibar in 1962 following a coup, and returned to Oman, but two years later traveled to Kuwait where he worked.
He eventually returned to Oman where he spent the rest of his life.
Qasabi fathered nine children – he outlived six. He also had 34 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. According to the Times of Oman, the age difference between him and his youngest great grandchild was 109 years and 10 months. His grandson, Abdullah Al-Qasabi claims that Salim was not really 127 at time of death. He claims that Salim was born in 1907 and that he was actually 110 at time of death.
Qasabi died after a fall, in which he broke his thigh. His family send him to hospital and it was discovered that he will need an operation. After the tests, the results showed that he had many infections, including a chest infection, and doctors had to give him a breathing pipe. Salim died on 11 September 2017.
