Selma "Sally" Mitchell (née Hurthle; 25 November 1904 – 11 July 2015) was an American supercentenarian whose age is currently pending by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was one of the oldest known people in the US state of California at the time of her death.
Sally Mitchell was born in Pentwater, Michigan, USA on 25 November 1904. She grew up on a farm with her four siblings. After high school, she attended the Ferris Institute (today known as Ferris State University).
After earning her business degree, she moved to California in 1922 to care for her brother who suffered an injury in World War I. She came to the Golden State by way of the El Capitan passenger train.
She secured a job with AT&T as a secretarial assistant. She married Howard Mitchell and had one daughter Suzanne, and the family settled in San Marino. Her husband died in 2000 at the age of 97. She had her three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Her daughter Suzanne attributes her mother's longevity to embracing a stress-free lifestyle. On her 110th birthday, she still had one living sister Maxine Baker.
Sally Mitchell died in Irvine, California, USA on 11 July 2015 at the age of 110 years, 228 days.
