Sara "Sally" Ann Dilbert Ashman (née Suppes; 23 November 1912 - 7 June 2024) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Sara Ashman was born on 23 November 1912 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, USA, one of three sisters born to George Osborne and Marion (née Dibert) Suppes. She graduated as valedictorian from both Cochrane Junior High School and Johnstown High School. She studied art history at Byrn Mawr College.
Sara met her future husband, Wilbur Ashman, on the tennis courts behind her house. They wed in 1936 and had three children, George, Sara and Thomas. Her husband was head administrator at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. They wintered in Naples, Florida and after her husband's death in 1990, Sara stayed there full-time until 2012, when she moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho to live with her daughter, Sara Cifrese.
In November 2022, Sara celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.
Sara's age was verified by Oliver Trim, Waclaw Jan Kroczek, and Dejan Vujic, and validated by the GRG on 20 January 2024.
Sara Ashman died in Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA on 7 June 2024 at the age of 111 years, 197 days. She is the oldest known person to ever die in the U.S. state of Idaho.
