Satayo Kawamura [Japanese: 川村さたよ] (19 May 1909 – 9 December 2021) was a Japanese-Brazilian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Satayo Kawamura was born in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan on 19 May 1909.

She graduated from girls' school and married at the age of 21. On 22 September 1930, she immigrated to Brazil on the immigrant ship "Buenos Aires Maru".

After arriving, she moved around the cities of Sao Paulo, including Atibaia and Tabachinga, where she was involved in cotton cultivation and silkworm industry. For about 10 years from the early 1950s, she owned her own farm in Araraquara and made vegetables.

In 1962, the family went to school as her third son, Minoru, went on to college. Two years later, Mototsugu died at the age of 60. While she was a housewife, she opened a store in Mercadon and went to work.

In May 2019, she celebrated her 110th birthday.

Kawamura died of pneumonia at the Lefort Hospital in Liberdade, Sao Paulo City, Sao Paulo State, Brazil at 11:40 am on 9 December 2021 at the age of 112 years, 204 days.
