Searson John Thompson (16 December 1911 – 24 July 2019) was a British centenarian who was the oldest known man in Wales since the death of Gwilym Ellis on 9 August 2017.

Biography[]

Searson Thompson was born in Leicester, Leicestershire, England, UK on 16 December 1911. He married Mary (now deceased) and had one son Paul Thompson (now deceased).

Still driving at 102 years old, he appeared on the TV programme 100 Year Old Drivers in 2014, where he spoke of the freedom and independence that driving afforded him in spite of his age.

He was the recipient of four birthday cards from the Queen Elizabeth II for his 100th, 105th, 106th and 107th birthdays. He lived at his home in Aberdyfi, until 2019, when he moved to Alexandra Care Home.

Searson Thompson died in Tywyn, Gwynedd, Wales, UK on 24 July 2019 at the age of 107 years, 220 days. He is survived by one daughter-in-law Jane Thompson and one granddaughter Alice Thompson.
