Shimetaro Hara [Japanese: 原志免太郎] (4 October 1882 – 18 June 1991) was a Japanese centenarian who was the oldest living man in Japan at the time of his death. He was also a famous medical doctor.
Biography[]
Shimetaro Hara was born in Japan on 4 October 1882. He was well known outside of his longevity, being a medical doctor who explored the practice of moxibustion.
Following the death of 109-year-old Tome Nakasone in August 1990, Hara became the oldest living person in Fukuoka Prefecture. Following the death of 109-year-old Nisaburo Matsuyama on 3 April 1991, he became the oldest living man in Japan.
Shimetaro Hara died in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan on 18 June 1991, at the age of 108 years, 257 days. He was succeeded as Japan's oldest man by Gihei Oka.
