Biography

Sixta Tulia Aguinaga de Posada was born as Sixta Tulia Aguinaga in Sopetran, Colombia, on 22 April 1907. She was a daughter of Eumelia Aguinaga, who was single at the time. She was baptised on 29 April 1907, a week after her birth. She had two younger siblings named, Jose Angel and Rosa, both of whom are now deceased.

On 18 April 1927, four days before her 20th birthday, Sixta married Pedro Posada and had seven children with him, two sons, and five daughters. Four of her children are now deceased. Only Mariela, Lucia and Rodolfo Posada are still alive, aged 77, 74, and 69 respectively, as of Sixta's 109th birthday in 2016.

Sixta lived with her daughter Lucia and granddaughters Erika and Vanessa from 1972 to 1978, when she returned to Colombia. Shortly after she returned to her home country, her eldest son Leon suddenly died. Her husband Pedro died in 1990, after 63 years of marriage. Sixta remained in Colombia until 2001, when she came back to the US for her granddaughter Erika's wedding. However, it wasn't until 2010 that Sixta became a permanent US citizen.

She became the oldest living Colombian-American person, following the death of 112-year-old Isabel Castano Restrepo on 6 February 2018.

Sixta Tulia Aguinaga de Posada died in LaGrange, New York, USA, on 6 October 2018 at the age of 111 years, 167 days.
