Sofia Vrabie (29 September 1908 – 16 May 2017) was a Romanian centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Romania at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Sofia Vrabie was born in Romania on 29 September 1908. There is not much information about her life, it is only known that at the time of her death she was the oldest living person in Romania.
The mayors visited her home on her 100th birthday in 2008. Sofia Vrabie was not present at the session of the Local Council on 22 December 2008, when her award was voted on, but in 2009 she was visited at home by Deputy Mayor Dragoš Lučijan.
"It is a natural gesture to reward such people, especially since Mrs. Vrabie lived all her life as a good Samaritan and did only good to those around her," said then Deputy Mayor Dragos Lucian. She became the oldest known living person in Romania, following the death of 108-year-old Elena Siriteanu on 24 July 2016.
Vrabie died in Bacău, Romania on 16 May 2017 at the age of 108 years, 229 days. Following her death, then 108-year-old Dumitru Comanescu became the oldest known living person in Romania.
