Stanislaw Pelka [Polish: Stanisław Pełka] (6 May 1914 – 17 July 2023) was a Polish centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Poland for the final three days of his life.
Biography[]
Stanislaw Pelka was born in Wilcza Wola, Austria-Hungary (now in Subcarpathia Voivodeship, Poland) on 6 May 1914. He was a member of a farming family. He got married and moved to the nearby village of Laski. In 1942, the Germans evicted his family from the farm because of the construction of a railway line that was to run through the village. Mr. Pełka returned with his wife to his home village, and then settled in the village of Pogwizdów. For a year he worked in a German farm in Rudna Wielka. After the Germans withdrew, he wanted to return to the farm in Laski, but it was destroyed during the war. The authorities, unable to provide him with material assistance, directed him to the Regained Territories. Together with a friend who had a farm in the Poznań region before the war, Mr. Pełka left for Poznań and then for Pobiedziska. After two months of staying in Pobiedziska, the family left for Krzyż Wielkopolski Municipality and settled on a farm in Łokacz Mały.
He became the oldest known living man in Poland following the death of 109-year-old Kazimierz Klimczak on 14 July 2023.
Stanislaw Pelka died in Łokacz Mały, Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland on 17 July 2023 at the age of 109 years, 72 days. He was the last known surviving man in Poland born in 1914.
