Stefan Modrzejewski (18 August 1903 – 27 July 2012) was a Polish centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Poland, though not the oldest living one born there, as Doctor Alexander Imich was older. The pair were also among the very last Polish-Soviet war soldiers alive.

Biography

Stefan Modrzejewski was born in Poland on 18 August 1903. He took part in the Polish-Soviet War. Young Stefan was returning from school and decided to join the fighters. There was only one problem: he was under 18 years old. He asked an accidental passer-by to sign that he was his father and agreed to his participation in the war. In this way he participated in the miracle on the Vistula. He was wounded during the fighting. He lived in Grabiszynek neighbourhood with his family since 1945. After the years, when Modrzejewski memorized his first memory from Wroclaw he said: "rubble and smoke".

Modrzejewski became the oldest (known) living man in Poland following the death of 108-year old Jozef Szyszko on 24 October 2010.

Modrzejewski died in Wroclaw, Lower Silesia, Poland on 27 July 2012 at the age of 108 years, 344 days. After his death, Antoni Dobrowolski inherited the title of the oldest living man in Poland.
