Stefan Novotny [Slovak: Štefan Novotný] (20 December 1904 – 23 May 2011) was a Slovakian centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Slovakia at the time of his death.
Biography[]
Štefan Novotný was born in the village of Slovinky, Košice Region, Austria-Hungary (now Slovakia), on 20 December 1904. Since his father was sent to the front in World War I, he had to replace him by doing work on the farm as a child. His father returned from the war with broken health, and he had to take on responsibilities at home again. At some point, he married and had seven children.
On 20 December 2004, he celebrated his 100th birthday, becoming a centenarian. In his centenarian years, he lived with his daughter Katarína Šmídová, in Kluknava, Košice Region.
On 1 July 2005, following the death of 101-year-old Ján Strišovský, he became the oldest known living man in Slovakia.
Štefan Novotný died in the village of Kluknava, Košice Region, Slovakia, on 23 May 2011, at the age of 106 years, 154 days. Following his death, then 104-year-old Michal Kružic became the oldest known living man in Slovakia.
