Sue Watanabe [Japanese: 渡邊すゑ] (27 May 1841 – January 1953) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Watanabe was born in Japan on 27 May 1841. She lived in the village of Shimonakajima (today Shimonakacho in Hashima City), Gifu Prefecture. At the age of 20, she married Hakuroku[citation needed] (Japanese: 蒪六) and they had 10 children. Her husband died in 1914.
As of 1951, only 2 of her children were still alive, and she had around 80 grandchildren. In May 1951, she celebrated her 110th birthday, possibly becoming the first Japanese supercentenarian. In September 1952, at the age of 111, she was reported as the oldest living person in Gifu Prefecture.
Her exact date of death is unknown, but according to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, she died in January 1953, at the age of 111 years, 219-249 days.
