Suma Tamagawa [Japanese: 玉川スマ] (14 March 1899 – 23 December 2011) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the eight-oldest living person in Japan, and the oldest living person in Iwate Prefecture.
Biography[]
Suma Tamagawa was born in Ninohe, Iwate Prefecture, Japan on 14 March 1899. She lived her entire life in Ninohe.
Following the death of 109-year-old Fumi Nishizawa on 19 May 2008, Tamagawa became the oldest living person in Iwate Prefecture. Her age was verified by Stefan Gelow and Japan's MHLW, and validated by the GRG on 12 August 2009.
Suma Tamagawa died in Ninohe, Iwate Prefecture, Japan on 23 December 2011, at the age of 112 years, 284 days.
