Sydney Hunt (16 September 1912 – 28 June 2021) was a British centenarian who was the second-oldest known living man in the UK (after John Tinniswood) at time of his death.

Biography[]

Syd Hunt was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England, UK on 16 September 1912 and grew up at Annesley Street in Grimsby. When he was a child, he saw the Zeppelin bombers over the Humber Estuary during the First World War.

He worked for many years as a TV repair man and visited most of the homes in the Grimsby area during the days when the majority of people rented their TVs. He also built one of the first TVs ever to be used in Grimsby.

During the Second World War, he had his heart set on service in the RAF but the Ministry decided his skills were more important in the design and construction of radar stations.

He married Kathleen and had at least had six children: Jill (now deceased), Trevor (now deceased), Robin (now deceased), Penny, Peter and Andrew. Kathleen died in January 1989.

His son Peter and his daughter-in-law Anne lives in Hazeldean, Queensland, Australia. On his 107th birthday, Peter and Anne surprised Syd for his birthday in Humberston, they just turned up and knocked on his door. Syd has been to Australia twice.

According to his youngest son Andrew, he never needed medication and only had carers in to provide meals in the past few years. He lived alone in his home in Adlard Grove in Humberston.

Hunt died in Humberston, Lincolnshire, England, UK on 28 June 2021 at the age of 108 years, 285 days. At time of his death, he had three living children, 18 grandchildren (including Laura Hunt), 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson Rex (born early 2021).
