Tanekichi Onishi [Japanese: 大西種吉] (15 February 1900 – 11 September 2011) was a Japanese supercentenarian who was the second-oldest living man in the world and also in Japan (behind Jiroemon Kimura) at the time of his death.
Biography[]
Tanekichi Onishi was born in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, on 15 February 1900. He became the oldest man ever from Hokkaido after Surpassing Kiyoshi Igarashi Final Age on 9 September 2011 He died two days later in Kitami City, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, on 11 September 2011, at age of 111 years 208 days. He held the title of oldest man ever from Hokkaido Prefecture until his age was surpassed by Masazo Nonaka Coincidentally another Japanese validated supercentenarian, Kana Nakada, who was born on the same day as him also died on the same day as him.
That had only ever happened once before, with Mollie Beard and Vonnie Looney both being born on 4 May 1893 and dying on 3 September 2003 aged 110 years, 123 days and it has never happened since.
