Biography[]

Teresa Fernandez Casado was born in Zambroncinos del Páramo, in the municipality of Zotes del Páramo, Castile and León, Spain, on 29 July 1913. Her mother was named Manuela, and she lived to be 88. Teresa was the youngest of eight children, and they lived on a hard-working farm. As a child, she went to school just to learn to read and write, since the rest of the time she had to help in the fields or herd the sheep. One day, while she was working on the beets, she had an accident that left her blind in her right eye.

At 18, she married Julián de Paz Casas, a young man from the village, and the following year her first son, Angel (93 years old in 2025), was born, followed in September 1933 by Amancio (92 years old in 2025). In addition to them, the couple also had seven other children, six of whom are still alive in July 2025. To support her family, she made cheese from sheep’s milk, knitted woolen socks, and sewed clothes for her children using her sewing machine.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, she used to spend a few months with each of her children. However, during the pandemic, they decided it was better for her to stay in one house with one of her daughters. Today she still lives in the house that belonged to her mother. Prior to that, she had been able to spend time in Toledo, Barcelona, Lloret de Mar, Madrid, and other places.

On 29 July 2023, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian. At that time, her children mentioned that she had once overcome a severe medical condition, during which the family had almost lost hope for her recovery, but she managed to pull through.

Even as a supercentenarian, she spent time with friends, and in particular with Rosalinda, a fellow villager who would be 103 years old in 2024.

On 28 December 2023, following the death of 111-year-old Angeles de la Fuente Campo, she became the oldest known living person in Castile and León.

On 11 November 2025, following the death of 112-year-old Angelina Torres Vallbona, she became the oldest known living person in Spain.

Teresa Fernandez Casado currently lives in Zambroncinos del Páramo, Castile and León, Spain, at the age of 112 years, 133 days.
