Centenarian

Todor Karagogov [Bulgarian: Тодор Карагогов] (6 December 1913 – 3 May 2021) was a Turkish-born Bulgarian centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Bulgaria at the time of his death.

Biography[]

Todor Karagogov was born in Pınarhisar, Ottoman Empire (present-day Turkey) on 6 December 1913 in a family of refugees. His grandmother lived to be 102, and his uncle lived to be 100.

He married and had five children. He worked as a farmer engaged only in sheep breeding. Although he lived by the sea for the last 102 years, Todor was not a fisherman. His recipe for longevity was simple. "Cigarettes - no! You take cigarettes, I don't want you. I like brandy. But I don't get drunk! I drink brandy on prescription!", he said in one of his statements to the media.

He became the oldest known living man in Bulgaria, following the death of 107-year-old Georgi Iliev Georgiev on 18 April 2020.

As of May 2020, he had eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren (including Alexander Karagogov).

Karagogov died in Tsarevo, Burgas Province, Bulgaria on 3 May 2021 at the age of 107 years, 148 days. Following his death, then 105-year-old Stojco Ivanov Stojcev became the oldest known living man in Bulgaria.
