Tomas Pinales Figuereo [Spanish: Tomás] (31 March 1906 – 24 September 2020) was a Dominican Republic supercentenarian who was the world's oldest living man at the time of his death, as well as the oldest person ever from the Dominican Republic. His age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography
Tomas Pinales Figuereo was born in Bajos de Haina, San Cristobal Province, Dominican Republic on 31 March 1906.
He worked at the Rio Haina sugar mill until the early 1950s, where he nearly lost the thumb of his right hand due to an accident at work. He smoked in his younger years, but quit in 1992 after suffering from lung disease.
He had 10 children: Nicanor, Adelaida, Paulino, Daniel, Carmen, Ramona, Joaquín, Lidia, Miladys, and Altagracita, who were all alive at the time of his 111th birthday in 2017. At the time, he was estimated to have 33 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
He became the oldest known living person in Dominican Republic, following the death of 112-year-old Efrain Nunez Nunez on 22 May 2017.
Following the death of 113-year-old Masazo Nonaka on 20 January 2019, Pinales Figuereo became the World's Oldest Living Man.
He was a relative of Melanio Paredes (1951–), former Minister of Education, and Rolando Guante, sports columnist for El Nacional.
Pinales Figuereo died in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on 24 September 2020 at the age of 114 years, 177 days. He was the oldest person ever from Dominican Republic, and the eighth-oldest man ever, behind Jiroemon Kimura, Christian Mortensen, Emiliano Mercado del Toro, Juan Vicente Perez Mora, Horacio Celi Mendoza, Walter Breuning and Yukichi Chuganji. He was also the last surviving man born in 1906 and before 1908.
