Tome Horigome [Japanese: 堀籠とめ] (22 January 1857 – 14 November 1968) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography

Tome was born in a farmhouse in Furukawa, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan on 22 January 1857. In 1875, at the age of 18, she was adopted by the Horigome's family. Next year, at the age of 19, she married. She gave birth to the youngest child in 1898. Although she gave birth to four children, the three of them died when they were young. Only the youngest child survived.

At the age of 100, she still had good sight and hearing. She was able to clean up the house before breakfast and to take care of her great-grandson.

Tome died in Nakaniida Town (present-day Kami), Miyagi Prefecture, Japan on 14 November 1968 at the age of 111 years, 296 days.

Potential Longevity Records

Tome Horigome may have been the world's oldest person from the death of Johanna Booysen on 16 June 1968 to her own death of 14 November 1968, being older than Marie Bernatkova (who would be her successor).
