Traian Grancea (24 December 1905 – 18 May 2014) was a Romanian centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Romania at the time of his death.

Biography[]

Traian Grancea was born in Sibiu County, Romania on 24 December 1905.

Grancea was deported to Transnistria in 1942, where he lost his family. On 22 October 2007, he and other Holocaust survivors were awarded the Order of Faithful Service by then-Romanian President Traian Basescu during a ceremony at Cotroceni Palace in recognition of the suffering they suffered during World War II.

He was the oldest living Holocaust survivor in Romania.

He became the oldest known living man in Romania, following the death of 108-year-old Gheorghe Covaci on 15 January 2014.

Grancea died in Porumbac de Jos, Sibiu County, Romania on 18 May 2014 at the age of 108 years, 145 days. The funeral was also attended by the Roma king of Romania, Daniel Choaba.
