Trijntje Draijer-de Vries (26 May 1914 – 22 November 2021) was a Dutch centenarian who was one of the oldest victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. She also was the oldest known living person in Friesland at the time of her death.

Biography[]

Trijntje Draijer-de Vries was born in Oosterzee, Friesland, Netherlands on 26 May 1914. Her father lived to be 93 and her mother lived to be 60. She had two brothers and three sisters. One of her brothers drowned in a ditch when he was three years old.

After primary school, she worked as a domestic worker and as a maid for a pastor.

At the age of 19, she met Hendrik Draijer. They married in 1937, after four years of courtship. She moved with her husband to Woudsend. The couple had three children: two sons and one daughter. Her husband died in November 1992, after 55 years of marriage.

As of May 2021, she had one living sister (who was 99 years old at time), eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. At the age of 107, she still can walk with the help of a walker.

She became the oldest known living person in Friesland, following the death of 107-year-old Renske van der Meer-van der Galien on 7 June 2021.

Trijntje Draijer-de Vries died of COVID-19 in Balk, Friesland, Netherlands on 22 November 2021 at the age of 107 years, 180 days.
