Tsuneyo Toyonaga [Japanese: 豊永常代] (21 May 1894 – 22 February 2008) was a Japanese supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Japan from the death of Shitsu Nakano on 19 August 2007 until her own death.

Biography[]

Tsuneyo Toyonaga was born in Tano, Kochi Prefecture, Japan on 21 May 1894. She gave birth to five children. In 1996, she moved into the nursing home "Dream Village" [Japanese: 夢の里] in Nankoku. Before that, she lived in Tano.

Toyonaga's age was verified by Japan's MHLW and Ken Matsuoka, and validated by the GRG on 24 September 2004.

Toyonaga died of old age in Nankoku, Kochi Prefecture, Japan on 22 February 2008 at the age of 113 years, 277 days. She is currently the oldest validated person ever from Kochi Prefecture.

Longevity Records[]

Following the death of 107-year-old Ushimatsu Hibayashi on 26 April 2002, Toyonaga became the oldest living person in Kochi Prefecture.

Following the death of 113-year-old Shitsu Nakano on 19 August 2007, Toyonaga became the oldest living person in Japan.

Following the death of fellow 113-year-old Bertha Fry on 14 November 2007, Toyonaga became the fifth-oldest validated living person in the world (after Edna Parker, Maria de Jesus, Arbella Ewing and Gertrude Baines). At the time of her death, she was one of the 90 oldest validated people ever.
