Vasilika Anastas (née Adams; 15 December 1912 – 16 July 2023) was an Albanian-born American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living Albanian-born person. She is also the oldest known (documented) Albanian-born person ever, as well as the first to reach the age of 110.

Biography[]

Vasilika Anastas was born as Vasilika Adams in Korce, Albania, on 15 December 1912 to parents John and Sofia Adams.

In 1933, Anastas emigrated to the United States, settling in Boston, Massachusetts. During her school years, she was very popular. She had an aspiration to become a mathematics teacher.

Anastas worked as a stitcher at the Cable Raincoat Co., and later on as a sales associate at Filene's Department Store. At some point, she married James Anastas.

Anastas was a keen traveler. She was also very devoted to her family. She and her husband were both avid fans of the Boston Red Sox.

Anastas became the oldest known living Albanian-born person following the 27 February 2022 death of 109-year-old Xhemile Kaloshi Susuri of Kosovo. In December of that same year, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

Vasilika Anastas died in Quincy, Massachusetts, USA on 16 July 2023 at the age of 110 years, 213 days. At the time of her death, she was the second-oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Massachusetts, behind Herlda Senhouse. Following her death, then-109-year-old Fana Naci became the oldest known living Albanian-born person.
