Velika Sabeva (Bulgarian: Велика Събева; 22 August 1902 – 6 February 2012) was a Bulgarian centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Bulgaria at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Velika Sabeva was born in the village of Tabachka, Ruse district, Bulgaria on 22 August 1902. She spent the first fifty years of her life in her native village, but later moved and lived in Ruse. Since 2001, she was been a resident of the Varna district "Vladislavovo".
On her 107th birthday in 2009, she had four children, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She lived in the countryside all her life and took care of her garden herself. She never drank alcohol and loved to eat fruits and vegetables. She claimed that there was no recipe for longevity, but she felt best when she was working and moving. She regularly voted in elections. Her philosophy was not to die of toil and work, but of idleness and laziness.
Sabeva died in Varna, Bulgaria on 6 February 2012 at the age of 109 years, 168 days. Following the her death, then 108-year-old Karamfila Stoyanova, became the oldest known living person in Bulgaria.
