Velma P. Curvey (nee Poffenbarger; 15 September 1898 – 24 December 2010) was a validated American supercentenarian.
Biography[]
Velma Curvey was born September 15, 1898 in rural Grove City, Illinois, the daughter of Ruben and Letha Poffenbarger Smith. In 1916 she graduated from Taylorville High School and also attended Eastern Illinois University. She taught in the country schools until her marriage to Merville M Curvey on September 8, 1927 at the Methodist Parsonage in Taylorville. She was a member of the Advent Christian Church in Palmer. She was a very faithful worker at Advent Christian Church and taught the same Sunday School that her mother had taught for over 40 years. Her husband died in 1977.
Curvey lived with her daughter from 1985 to 2001. Curvey eventually moved into Taylorville Care Center in Christian County, Illinois in 2001, aged 103. Curvey suffered from severe dementia, being unable to remember who her daughter was.
Curvey died on 24 December 2010, Curvey was survived by her daughter, multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
