Vinson George Gulliver (28 November 1887 – 7 August 1997) was a British centenarian who was the oldest known living man in the United Kingdom at the time of his death.

Biography[]

Gulliver was born as one of the thirteen children of George and Bertha (Tidmarsh) Gulliver, in Ufton, England, UK, on 28 November 1887. He had numerous jobs, including working as a farmer, a train driver, and a firefighter. He married Lucy Hardman in 1928 and had a daughter, Doreen.

Gulliver became the UK's oldest man on 24 April 1995 upon the death of 108-year old Welshman David Davies. Gulliver held the title for over 2 years before dying on 7 August 1997, aged 109 years, 252 days. Initially, 108-year old George Cook was named his successor, but Scotsman David Henderson (3 days older than Cook) was later discovered and subsequently given the title.
