Viola Minnie Jacobi (née Kirchner; 25 July 1903 – 22 May 2016) was a validated American supercentenarian noted for being Wisconsin's oldest resident on record.

Early life

She was born as Viola Kirchner on a farm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA on 25 July 1903. Her parents were Theodore and Kate Kirchner. Theodore eventually lived to be 95. She had one older and one younger sibling. Since she attended school during the 1910s when cars were rare, her father transported Viola to school daily through horse and carriage.

Adult life

On 15 June 1926, Viola (affectionately known as 'Vi') married Conrad Jacobi, who worked as an estimator. The couple had four children in total between 1927-1942. Two of them were still alive as of July 2014. After her children were grown, she started working as a florist until her retirement in the late 1990s.

In the 1960s, the Jacobis went back to her home town to take care of her father.

Later years

Conrad died in 1989, the cause of death being Alzheimer’s disease. In her nonagenarian years, she acquired basic computer skills. Viola had suffered from both breast and skin cancer but had managed to overcome them. Viola drove a car until she was 95 years old, when it was stolen along with her handbag. At the age of 106, she first moved to a nursing home. A year before that, she was featured in Willard Scott's classic centenarian birthdays segment.

At the time of her 111th birthday in 2014, she was reported to be wheelchaired as well as having poor eyesight. She lived at the Lutheran Home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. At the time of her 112th birthday in 2015, the key factors for her longevity were said to be genetics, not smoking or drinking, and getting quality assistance at her nursing home. It was also mentioned that Viola was sometimes mentally unaware of her surroundings, a sign of senility.

Jacobi is currently the third-oldest Wisconsin-born person of all time, behind Erna Zahn (born 14 April 1908) aged 114 years, 121 days, and Bertha Harris, who died at the age of 113 years, 59 days.

Jacobi died in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA, on 22 May 2016 at the age of 112 years, 302 days.
