Viorica Hogas [Romanian: Viorica Hogaș] (9 February 1915 – 25 November 2023) was a Romanian centenarian who was the oldest known living woman in Romania as well as the second-oldest known living person in Romania, behind Ilie Ciocan at the time of her death.

Biography[]

Viorica Hogas was born in Udesti, Suceava County, Romania on 9 February 1915. Her father was a teacher. After finishing school she worked as a teacher. She married on 3 March 1937 to Ion Hogas. Her husband was also a teacher. The two did not spend much time together after the wedding, because the husband was called to the front to fight in world war II, and never returned home. Viorica Hogas did not remarry. She raised her daughter Adriana alone and had a hard life.

In February 2015, she celebrated her 100th birthday and became a centenarian.

She became the oldest known living woman in Romania, following the death of 109-year-old Maria Mihai on 2 February 2022.

Viorica Hogas died in Suceava, Suceava County, Romania on 25 November 2023 at the age of 108 years, 289 days. Following her death, then 108-year-old Noja Paladia became the oldest known living woman in Romania.
