Vitorino Fernandes (6 April 1913 – 13 July 2022) was a Portuguese centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Portugal at the time of his death.

Biography[]

Vitorino Fernandes was born in Recezinhos, Penafiel, Porto District, Portugal on 6 April 1913. He started working as a tailor at the age of 12. He married and had four children (including Alexandrino Fernandes and Armandina Fernandes).

His wife died at the age of 65. He retired at the age of 80. He lived alone until the age of 103.

He became the oldest known living man in the Continental Portugal, following the death of Alberto Andrade of Aveiro on 8 October 2021, the oldest known living man in Portugal, following the death of Jose Martins of Madeira on 14 May 2022, and the oldest known living Portuguese-born man, following the death of Jose Fernandes Morgado of Brazil on 18 June 2022.

As of April 2022, he has six grandchildren (including Vitalia Fernandes), six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Fernandes died in Recezinhos, Porto District, Portugal on 13 July 2022 at the age of 109 years, 98 days.
