Walter Sharp (7 August 1914 – 19 August 2020) was a British centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Scotland at time of his death. He was also the oldest resident of Falkirk district.
Biography[]
Walter Sharp was born in Camelon, Scotland, UK on 7 August 1914, as was one of five children along with brothers Robert, Jack and William and sister Helen.
After attending Carmuirs Primary School and Camelon High School, he began working at the Carmuirs Iron Works before joining the Army aged 26.
While serving in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in Surrey, he would also meet his wife, Doris. He married Doris in 1944 and had one son Brian (aged 72 in 2019). He got widowed in 1990.
At the age of 100, he still was working delivering papers and believes he might just be the world's oldest paperboy. He was one of the first in Scotland to get the French Legion of Honour in 2015. At the age of 105, he was blind and had a hearing aid.
Sharp became the oldest known living man in Scotland following the death of 106-year-old Chic Kennedy on 19 June 2020. He died two months later at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, Falkirk, Scotland, UK on 19 August 2020 at the age of 106 years, 12 days. After his death, George Pollard became the oldest known man in Scotland.
