Wayland Merle Newell (15 September 1846 – 17 September 1954) was an American centenarian who was the oldest known living man in the world at the time of his death.
Biography[]
Wayland Newell was born in Oswego, New York, USA on 15 September 1846. His parents were Myron Newell and Lydia (née Bassett) Newell. He had two siblings.
He married Catherine "Carrie" Treat in Rock County, Wisconsin, USA on 15 May 1874. The couple had six children. He got widowed in 1919.
He became the oldest known living man in the world, following the death of 107-year-old Karl Glockner on 10 October 1953.
Newell died in Des Moines, Iowa, USA on 17 September 1954 at the age of 108 years, 2 days.
